What a difference!

This made me laugh really hard for a really long time:

And in today’s news, huzzah! – M.I.A.’s long awaited sophomore album, “Kala,” was released today! No longer will M.I.A. stand for “Missing In Action”…actually it still will, but it won’t be as fitting. Reasons why you should love her:

1. She’s from the U.K. and has that awesome accent.
2. Uh hello! Experimental elecronica and rap!
3. On her last album, she used global sounds for her album…but for this one, she went all mobile on us and went out to a number of different cities in the world recording global sounds. Now she’s going to the music…deep.
4. This song, “Boyz,” is very addictive.

I’ve disappeared for a bit. I apologize for my inconsistencies…or as the English would say, “I ‘apologise’ for my inconsistencies.” I’ve been a busy bee doing…let’s just say random stuff. I’ll keep it as a mystery.

Let’s listen to Au Revoir Simone’s song, “Sad Song.” You know you like to fix yourself a good bowl of milk and Honey Nut Cheerios laced with electronic synth-pop rock. These three lovely girls whose looks have been compared to the girls of “The Virgin Suicides” make songs that just make you want to cry. But we like to cry sometimes, right? Crying is the new pink. And pink isn’t a sissy color anymore.

My life as a high-school student…

Here’s an amusing and awkward story. You know you like awkward. My friend from England was spending her last night in L.A. and wanted to go out dancing. We all thought it would be a good idea to try a new club because you know, variety is the spice of life. As we were standing in line, my friend says, “Wow, everyone sure looks awfully young.” That definitely foreshadowed the events for the rest of the evening. After getting wristbands to get in and a big “O” written hastily on our hands, we realized we had walked into the trap of the 18 and over club. Oh gawd. It definitely made me feel very old. The bartenders were standing around idly without any customers to serve – something I have never seen before in a club on a Saturday night. Girls were just wearing bras. Bras! It was definitely very ghetto. We were scared that any boys would touch us because there had to be underage kids there (under 18!). Remember, 15 gets you 20. It felt like a high school dance. Half of the boys were brave and decided to hump everything that moved while the other half were still young and awkward. Those boys milled around the dance floor endlessly without any particular reason for walking through the crowd. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen everyone “freak” each other. The whole guy-girl dancing with one of the girl’s legs wrapped around the guy’s waist is just beyond me. That can’t be comfortable or good for balance. Is that something an old person would say? I’m very happy with my current age. Although being 18 had its fun moments, I don’t need to go through it again. It’s still funny to look back at all the ol’ clubbing hits from 2000 – Eminem, Destiny’s Child, Jay Z, Shaggy, and let’s not forget Baha Men with their oldie but goodie, “Who Let the Dogs Out.”

Okay, let’s get back to the year 2007 and check out some good music. This video is not really a video at all, but the song rocks. Here’s Voxtrot’s “The Start of Something.” It reminds me a bit of the Smiths and I’m so addicted to it. Sit back and enjoy :)

The Magic Numbers…is 5?

Did you actually expect to see numbers for the lottery? I’m not psychic. I have no idea what the magic number is, but I do know the band, The Magic Numbers. Two sets of siblings, one set from Trinidad the other set from London, all making harmonious music full of crooning, star-tinkling, and all that good stuff that makes for good make-out music on the first date.

Here’s their video for their song “I See You, You See Me”

I feel so bad, but not bad enough. I can’t stop laughing at these pictures. Whoever did this was really good at Photoshop. Here’s the original and the rest will follow.

Peanuts, mullets, and architects

Bad jokes of the day:

A dyslexic man walked in a bra.

Two peanuts walked into a bar. One was a salted.

(thanks to my friend, Mui for supplying these awesome jokes)

Yay for Tegan and Sara making music with infectious melodies and having identical mullets! Twins that have matching mullets are hot, right? Yeah, totally! Their new album, The Con, was released a couple of weeks ago, so if you’re digging them, why don’t you support them by buying their album and getting a Euro-mullet? Check out their first single, “Back in Your Head.”

Story of the day:
I was listening to NPR today and heard an amusing story about the architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. Well, first of all, he had a lot of illicit affairs. Very spicy stuff. Anyhow, so this story was told by his granddaughter. Frank and his family were sitting in the living room together listening to Beethoven. When the song finished playing, Frank announced to the room that he wanted to hear it again. So everyone complied and listened to it again. After it finished, Frank requested to hear it a third time. Everyone looked at each other in confusion and annoyance, but listened to the song yet again. When that finished, guess what? He wanted to hear it a fourth time. Frank’s wife stood up and said, “I cannot listen to it another time!” He laughed and said, “See? If you never speak up, you’ll never be able to change anything.”

Opposite of eye candy

At work, I review a lot of websites for inappropriate material. Here are some pictures I’ve come across over the past couple of weeks. They’re hilarious. They also make no sense. ENJOY!

Have you ever wanted to jazz up your USB drives? Here’s your chance!

Nothing beats the ol’ plug and socket couple costumes! “Ricky ta ta!” (that’s my old man voice saying old man things). Keep in mind where his plug is and where her socket is if you know what I mean. Uh-huh *wink wink *ew (Ew because he has two of them. And double ew because the guy looks like a weaksauce version of Justin Timberlake when he didn’t look hot.) Are the heels really necessary when you’re already dressed like crap?

I found this picture on ebay. I don’t even know what to say. This was the description of the product:
Bubbles is a very naughty gnome, he’s offended the other gnomes and needs a new home. If you give him 3AA batteries and some soap bubbles, he will blow bubbles for you in a rather naughty way.

These are a few of my favorite things…

“Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels…Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles…”

What are these things? Maria must be on crack.

Anyhow, these are my favorite things of the day:

I’m addicted to this song by Ferry Corsten, called Punk. But it’s not punk. It’s more like trance. But he’s from the Netherlands, so maybe there was something lost in translation. I’ve got it! I shall call it punk trance!

And you must know about my love for Lil’ Mama’s “Lip Gloss” song. Here’s a screen shot of my favorite part of the video – her crazy eyes.

I know my adoring fans have been wondering where I’ve been. Well, I’ll tell you. My lovely gal pal from England is here visiting for the week and I’ve spent nearly every day with her. Yesterday, we went on the celebrity homes tour in Beverly Hills and Bel Air. Since I live in L.A., it’s quite lame for me to stalk celebrities in an air-conditioned tour bus that is shared with people from places like Arkansas and Florida…but I’ve always wanted to do it. Good thing she’s here because I got to mask my shameful guilty pleasure of celebrity stalking as an activity that any good host would do for a good friend. We did get to see the house from “the Fresh Prince of Bel Air”. The house is really in Bel Air! I’ll post pictures once I upload them. Earlier this week, I got drunk off of $2 margaritas in Echo Park and saw this Delorean in a parking lot. I got really excited and sat on the hood like an import model. I couldn’t help it! These are the reasons why:
1. It’s the car from Back to the Future!
2. It has that refrigerator stainless steel look.
3. I was drunk.
